MAD-news for March: Congressional App Challenge APPy Hour this Thursday at 6pm

Hi Guest,

Thank you for your time. Thank you for your attention. Thank you for knowing that your voice and your opinions matter. Thank you for taking action on the things that are critical for you, your family, your students, your colleagues, your community, and our world. We know there is A LOT going on in the world and in our lives at the moment. Let’s remember the things that matter to us now and for our future generations. Voices of Children is an organization that we are currently supporting that provides resources for children displaced by the war in Ukraine. If you are able, you can donate here.

Congressional App Challenge APPy Hour

MAD-learn, in collaboration with The Congressional App Challenge, presents an “APPy Hour” for educators on Thursday, March 17th at 6pm Eastern. Come celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with us, bring a beverage of choice, meet some new friends across the country, learn more about the Congressional App Challenge, and how you can get your students involved! Don’t miss this exciting opportunity (you could also win a $50 Amazon gift card!)

Onward to In-Person, Hybrid, and Virtual Events

We are finally starting to get out and see friends in person again! We were presenting sessions at IDEACon 2022 in Chicago and Educating for Careers in Sacramento and then training with teachers in Palm Beach, Miami-Dade, Rich Township 227, DeKalb County and it has been great to feel more connected with our fantastic partners. The hybrid and virtual options keep us all connected, no matter where we are physically and we LOVE IT!

GA STEM Day

#GASTEMDay is a day for schools, educators, students, and companies to engage in activities involving science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). By celebrating Georgia STEM Day 2022, you helped to raise awareness of the importance of STEM in our state. Thousands of schools across Georgia participated on March 4. We are so glad to have collaborated with TAG-Education to actively take part in this years’ celebrations. We kicked off the eve of GA STEM Day with an APPy Hour for educators. This was followed by a career connections talk for students on March 4 by Alefiya Master to inspire students to think entrepreneurially and create things they wish existed. Alefiya shared her journey, entrepreneurial lessons learned along the way, and inspired students to #beapreneur, anypreneur. Check out how these teachers rocked their awesome #STEMinist t-shirts to celebrate GA STEM Day!

MAD-spotlight!

MAD-teacher of the Month

Bowling Green State University’s Mark Stevens has been a champion of MAD-learn’s value to students at the post-secondary level. Now in his 16th year as an instructor at BGSU, Mark is a graduate of the Classroom Technology and Career and Technical Education programs at Bowling Green State University. The focus of his graduate studies was educational game design as reflected in thesis research on the DEVELOPMENT OF AN EDUCATIONAL ROLE-PLAYING GAME FOR THE ACQUISITION OF OHIO FOURTH-GRADE MATHEMATICS STANDARDS. He met his goal to contribute to the body of knowledge in the fields of educational game design and instructional virtual worlds.

For three years, he has also led his graduate students in the University’s education program that includes understanding and building social media outlets to better communicate and engage with students. He sees MAD-learn as the perfect vehicle to advance these goals.
