Hi Guest,
Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukkah, Happy Kwanzaa, and Happy Holidays from our family to yours. With the holidays upon us, we hope you are able to take a break this month, unplug, unwind, and breathe a much needed sigh of relief. You have made it this far supporting students during a pandemic and now there is light at the end of the tunnel with vaccines starting to be administered. Please stay safe and be well.

What’s New?
A Busy #hourofcode #CSEdWeek
MAD-learn schools across the nation and Canada participated in Hour of Code this year. For us it was most exciting with our long-time partners at the District School Board of Niagara (DSBN). MAD-learn conducted “quick introduction” sessions with students throughout the school board all week, and we were impressed with how well the students at those schools were able to get so much done in such a short period of time.
Students had great ideas and were thoughtful about how to put them into prototypes that they developed. The enthusiasm sparked by these sessions was clear during the end-of-week finale, in which about a dozen student teams shared what they had been able to accomplish and build that week. We are always impressed with the work done by DSBN students, and this week served as another great example of their creativity, communication, technical, and entrepreneurial skills!
MAD-certification is now HERE!
MAD-learn is proud to announce the creation of its teacher certification program, recognizing teachers who have demonstrated proficiency in delivering the program to their students, and to those who have taken MAD-learn to new levels.
Our initial certifications were presented to 58 certified MAD-teacher and MAD-expert designees and their administrators earlier this month, and we are proud to have them all be part of the MAD-learn family of valued partners.
In the coming months we are projected to add several more teachers to this illustrious roster, but today we congratulate our “First Class” of recipients! If you received you badge and certificate via email, don’t forget to share it on social media and tag us @MADlearn on twitter @madlearnmagic on Instagram.

MAD-teacher of the Month
Miyosha Guinn is the Career Technology Education (CTE) Coordinator at Irving ISD. She has over 15 years in education, the last three and a half in her current position. She is a dedicated and visionary leader who has brought a variety of new ideas to Irving ISD teachers. She approached us earlier this year with the idea of using MAD-learn as a catalyst for a year long CTE program.
Working with her and teachers at four Irving high schools, a plan was developed to create just that. The result was a program with three modules: building an app within the Design Thinking Process, learning basic code development for HTML, CSS and JavaScript, and how to become an “appreneur”. The program was launched in the fall and will continue through the end of the year at the four schools. So far the feedback and collaboration with the teachers has been fantastic, and we are looking forward to seeing the program continue to provide a genuine and relevant experience for those CTE students!
