MAD-news for February: Virtual Cook Party with MAD-learn!

Hi Guest,

I was just in a session at NCCEP’s Capacity Building Workshop and I heard the best advice from a fellow attendee: we need to bring the FUN back, not just for our students, but for parents and ourselves, too. That’s why we’re hosting a global virtual cook party soon. Join us for some FUN (details below)!

Speaking of fun, I know you haven’t seen this yet so I hope you enjoy this video – https://youtu.be/Hik1xiXXM2U

MAD-learn Teams Up with Kakuma Refugee Center

Last month MAD-learn became a proud sponsor for the Kakuma Vocational Center, a refugee youth-led non-profit, community-based organization based in Kakuma, Kenya. Established in 2018, KVC’s goal is to equip refugees with the tools to create a better future for themselves, and to prepare and implement sustainable programs for young people in vocational training and human development skills. KVC is working to give dignity to refugees in the host community through its programs as mentioned in its aim and to make them self-reliant after trainings. We were honored to meet with several dedicated facilitators at the school, who were very excited to include MAD-learn in their programming. We look forward to being a part of their children’s growth and successes, working with KVC to help give a solid basis to underprivileged young men and women so they may help themselves and their families today and in the future. Unfortunately, a fire burned down their center just a few weeks ago and they need our help to rebuild. You can contribute to the gofundme campaign here.

NJ STEM Grant

MAD-learn, in collaboration with Teq and NJ STEM Pathways Network, is offering a grant opportunity to New Jersey educators to fund a MAD-learn classroom package. The grant will provide student licenses and virtual PD for the Spring semester! Empower your students to brainstorm ideas, plan, design, build, test, and launch their very own apps. If you are in NJ, apply by March 31 at 11 pm EST.  Application: https://forms.gle/oazbXYLWsntGJq3Z7

MAD-teacher of the Month

The Epstein School’s Tali Ben-Senior is our MAD-teacher of the Month. This veteran MAD-teacher has experience in the instructional technology education field. She finished two master’s degrees, one in education and another in instructional technology, with honors.

Some key roles in her current position are to supervise assessment of technologies products and services effectiveness. Identify staff needs, design and implement professional training as needed. Initiate, develop, and lead new initiatives and update technology services to maximize full potential. Tali strives towards facilitating and guiding learners in the education process while supporting their needs with the most appropriate technology tools and resources.

She had much to share about the program. “Using MAD-learn for the past three years has allowed our students to learn and practice their mobile application building skills in addition to their Hebrew language skills. The students love to use and modify the different templates that are offered. We also integrate the many resources MAD-learn offers our students with the coding curriculum we are using in class. This year we have several students using MAD-learn to create their app and enter the Georgia Independent and Homeschool Regional Technology Competition. Students are able to express their creativity and coding skills while having fun building their apps.”
